A coffee table in black ash and tempered glass for a restrained living room

The colour is the first thing you see: ash in black, with the grain of the wood still legible under the finish, and tempered glass in grey. Two darks that are not the same dark, and that contrast of material — a matt wood against a cold glass — is what holds the piece up. The tempered glass resolves the surface for daily use and the grey takes away the mirror shine clear glass would have.

It measures 100 × 100 cm and stays at 33 cm high, among the lowest heights in the category: it sits well below the seat and does not break the view across a living room. It weighs 46.8 kg, a weight that leaves it still wherever it is placed. It arrives flat-packed to be assembled at home.

It works as the visual centre of a contemporary-lined living room and gains when there are light tones around it: a raw or grey sofa, a neutral rug, and the table as the dark point.

Beside it are the other designer coffee tables.
