Baum Side Table

A modern side table that is also a sculpture

The Baum side table starts from an unusual design question: what happens when you subtract material from a cylindrical volume instead of adding legs or structure? The lateral opening that defines the Baum is that subtraction: a calculated void that visually relieves the mass of the terrazzo and that also creates an interior space usable as discreet storage for books, remotes or small objects. Function and sculpture in a single formal decision.

Solid terrazzo is a material with a history and a present: used for centuries in Mediterranean architecture, it has come back strongly in contemporary decoration precisely because its natural texture, with small aggregate inclusions that create variations of colour and tone, gives it a depth synthetic materials cannot imitate. The matt finish of the Baum also softens the presence of the material and makes it more domestic, more approachable, without losing its character.

Mass and void: a dialogue of contemporary design

The tension between the solid volume and the lateral opening is what makes the Baum interesting from any angle. Seen from the front, the cylinder dominates. Seen from the side, the void takes the lead and the piece looks lighter. It is therefore a table that invites you to walk around it, to discover it from different perspectives, behaving like the best pieces of sculptural design.

Its off-white integrates easily into very different decorative palettes: from the most minimalist interiors to the warmest, most textured spaces. Its scale of 40×40×50 cm also gives it exactly the right size not to go unnoticed without taking up too much space in the room.

For interiors that value authenticity

The Baum is, in short, a modern side table for those who understand that the best design objects have something to say beyond their function. A piece chosen with judgement and appreciated more and more over time.

To enhance its sculptural character, combine it with one of our distinctive table lamps in ceramic or natural stone that share its handcrafted spirit.
