A black resin pendant light to preside over a dining room or a hall

The body is made of resin in black, with a metallic detail in gold that breaks the dark mass. Resin is a closed, smooth material: it does not gather dust between fibres and a wipe of a cloth is enough, which is convenient on a piece that hangs high and is rarely cleaned. The contrast between the black and the gold is what gives it character, and it works best in restrained interiors, where the light provides the only metallic shine in the room.

The large version measures 100 × 100 cm in plan and 80 cm high, so it is not a supporting piece: it occupies the centre of the ceiling and calls for free height above the table. The small one, at 40 × 40 × 45 cm, does the opposite: it fits over a side table or in a corner, and allows several to be hung in a row. That scale also shows in the weight, 10.55 kg, which is worth allowing for when working out the fixing. It looks good over a large dining table, in a stairwell or in a double-height entrance hall, where the volume reads even with the light off.

The large one arrives in a 105 × 105 × 92 cm box, so it is worth measuring the access before carrying it up. You can see it alongside the rest of the designer ceiling lights.
