Dune Sideboard

An oval-volume sideboard in beige synthetic marble and walnut

The shape is the first thing you see: an oval volume, with no edges, which breaks with the rectangular sideboard of always. Beige synthetic marble wraps the body and walnut veneer appears as a warm contrast over an MDF base. The doors have no handles, they close with a push catch, and that keeps the front clean and in keeping with a curved piece.

There are three doors and three fixed shelves. Each compartment measures 47 × 36.5 × 65 cm, with 32 cm of clearance between shelves, so stacked plates, glasses and bottles laid flat all fit. Each shelf takes 10 kg and the unit holds 80 kg, plenty of margin for a lamp or a stone platter on the top. The wall anchor is included, which makes sense in a 102.2 kg piece with a removable top.

It is 180 cm wide, 40 deep and 85 high. The height keeps the top clear above the plane of the table and the contained depth makes up for the width: it takes up wall, not room. It arrives flat-packed and requires assembly.

Meant for generous dining rooms and living rooms, where it can be seen head-on with air around it. Next to the other sideboards the difference in scale shows better.
